Have any of read the article where the woman trafficing 1.5kg of heroine was sent to prison for life and is being pushed to stand before the firing squad? It raises the question...Should she pay such a high price for a drug?
I argue...Yes. Although, a first time offender I wouldn't send to the firing squad. However, I feel that someone supplying a drug like heroine should definitely receive the ultimate punishment. Why? It's simple, you're a direct link/cause to the degradation of someone's life.
Some will argue "She didn't put it to the buyer's veins and shoot it up for him". No, not directly. But that doesn't mean it should be ok for such drugs to be available for people to "try".

I'm all for their style of punishment because human beings have the uncanny ability to adapt to their surroundings. Watch Shaw Shank Redemption. An excellent movie in which people spent the majority of their lives in prison, adapted to prison, and by the time they were released to the modern world. Their comfort zone was back in prison. What rehabilitation have these people gained? None!
Now, make the punishment harsher. If you're proven guilty of rape, murder, drug dealing, imagine if the second offense was DEATH. I GUARANTEE you that people will shape their shit up. Think about it...You spend 25 years in prison, you made friends in prison, your comfortable in prison. You then come out of prison, you can't get a job, you steal and go right back to prison...So what? That's where you spent the majority of your life. Now, this argument can't be made for all prisoners, but still...It definitely can be made for some which is a problem in itself.
However, if you question a person's life...their survivability, then I believe that most people will abstain from most crimes. Take US for example. The majority of guys here don't think of Prison as some dirty dungeon with ghouls and diablo-like monsters. No. Our biggest fear of prison is............. ANAL RAPAGE. I dunno about you guys, but my fears of prison isn't the fact that I'm locked up....But the fact that my ability to survive with a virgin butthole is slim to none and the fact that I will be made someone's bitch. Which, inevitably, deminishes my ability to truly live as, most straight guys would consider, a "real man".
To make a long post short (I'm at work and bored). If you existed in a place where if you stole, you ended up in a small room with a T.V. and 3 square meals a day. Could you be tempted to steal even if it isn't a necessity? Probably yes.
Now put yourself in a place, where if you stole and were caught. They would take your right hand and chop it off. Could you be tempted to steal? Probably yes, but I'm pretty sure you haven't eaten for the last 15 days and your personal well-being has pushed the consequences to the side.
