What one song do you think sums up the Bush presidency? I'll start off with this submission. www.netwerker.net/sounds/requests/David%20Bowie%20and%20Nine%20Inch%20Nails%20%2D%20I%27m%20Afraid%20of%20Americans%2Emp3music vid on youtube www.youtube.com/watch?v=slKNd22GGaQIt's an outsider's view of the more morose side of American culture; the materialism, the glorification of sex and violence, and the "we can do no wrong because God is on our side" mentality. That last part is especially true, how many time has Bush said that he is doing God's will (not the exact words but along those lines)? Even though this song came out in 1997, I think it has more relevance now than ever before. Bowie had this to say about it: "It's not as truly hostile about Americans as say "Born in the U.S.A.": it's merely sardonic. I was traveling in Java when the first McDonald's went up: it was like, “for fuck's sake.” The invasion by any homogenized culture is so depressing, the erection of another Disney World in, say, Umbria, Italy, more so. It strangles the indigenous culture and narrows expression of life. " All political or cultural messages aside, this NIN remix still rocks my lame ass!! P.S. I’m not trying to start a bush-bashing thread, if you think it should be “Let the good times roll”, then post that sheeeeeeeeeeit!
