It's a pretty good anime. I like it a lot.
Basically, its a boy who can see spirits/ayakashi/youkai/whatever you wanna call it. Although, hes the only person who CAN see them. Natsume's grandmother, who was very strong, made this book that can control all the youkai's whose names are in it. Natsume now has it, but instead, hes trying to return ALL of youkai's names back to them, with the help of this little cat who can transform in this giant Inuyasha/Sesshomaru dog/wolf thing. He looks like Okami, I guess.
Anyways, if you like japanese folklore with a spiritual feeling to it, then you should watch this. The whole show has been pretty peaceful and relaxing, so I love it for that. The music is great and the ending song is pretty amazing for sleeping.

It's a special anime! The music, especially the ending song and the theme is spectacular. The anime makes me feel sad, lonely when I think hard about Reiko and Natsume. I love the connection Natsume shares with his grandmother despite never knowing or meeting her. Natsume is a very badass character too, very "realistic". Finish what your grandmother left undone, Natsume. Our grandmothers were young at one time too...all of our ancestors and if you're fortunate enough to see them alive you're left seeing them towards the end of their lifeline, but like us they were once young too. It makes me wonder what they were like at my age. What did they do growing up? How did they feel? What were their dreams? Anyways, stellar anime. So far this has been an knockout season for anime.

<<< picks ALL the super great animes out
Yea. I finished it last night. I really love this show. Next season comes out January 2009. And the ending song is pretty damn touching
How the show is...like Israel said, the theme of it is spiritual. The background music fits the show to a T and just how everything is. Its more like reading a book, rather than watching something.
