Kendra and I are part of "Unleashed" a fairly decent sized guild of 160+ members. I think they broke 170 last night.
80% of the guild are active playing level 80s. How active those become in a month is beyond me.
They do a lot of things and basically they're a large LFG channel for Kendra and me. Sunday Kendra and I got our black war bears. A 40 man raid made up of Unleashed, Wyrm, and a spatter of other individuals, ripped through the 4 Captial Alliance cities. I think maybe 5 people died and that was in Ironforge which seems to be the hardest one to raid.
So I see the benefits of being in a large guild, but I also see everything wrong with large guilds. Mainly the idea that people play and have different motivations, but the majority of them are rightfully so...out for themselves. So progression and gearing up is the glue that binds them. Helping guild members out is secondary on most of their minds. That said, the crafters give out stuff for free and for the most part they're fairly nice players.
The biggest positive is the large pool of players to form groups with. I still find myself PuGing 95% of the time but nearly everytime someone from my guild is in the group because they were picked up for the PuG as well by the PuG group leader.
So I'm sticking with Unleashed for now. I do my random spurts of casual/hardcore. Tanks seem to be easy to come by on this server, I'm always looking for DPS for my groups which I find laughable.
I still think of the urge to "tank" every now and then but I'm having a good time as RET. Not to mention everything is easy mode now. Plus as RET I get to do a bit of everything being much more mana efficient, I find myself tossing out heals, Art of War instant flashes, cleansing, all the time. It's a lot more engaging than, holy shield, consecrate, judge, SotR, Hammer.
Kendra and I finally hit 80 last night. So now it's heroics for me, building up Rep, and just having some casual fun. With mutiple 25-Naxx groups I'll be in one of them in the meantime badge gear and heroic gear will keep me occupied. With the easy mode style of Wrath it's easier being casual and getting stuff done.
Good luck with the guild!
