I don't get it.
My laptop with an 8800M GTS plays 1680X1050 with everything maxed just fine.
Is it because they're booting Windows in a Mac and playing L4D?
With the Mac thing at first I thought I didn't get the whole appeal because I never used one. But now at work I have a mini (phasing out into iMac) on my desk and access to nearly ever new Mac product available and I STILL don't get it.
Macs as a product/trend are the most overpriced mediocre computers on the market. Same components available for PC right from newegg. Yet the price of a Mac is through the roof. I guess most of the costs come from paying for the "White plastic" and the "apple logo".
Macs gray screen as much as Vista Blue screens (In both cases are very rare these days).
I guess my perspective is very skewed against Mac in any shape/form from a pure hardware stand point because I just build my own computers so the costs savings and the ability to uniquely create my own computer based on a style of my liking are great.
I'm neither PC or Mac - Windows nor OSX, so to me it's just way more sane to go with the cheaper computer with the same performance and ability to upgrade from many venues.
Oh well, this isn't a rant against Joe, I just got out of an meeting (Meeting for Mac techs/analyst) and these guys have the most ridiculous views about anything non-Mac. Not to mention you'd think Microsoft CREATES all PCs from the way they talk. It's always Mac (as a platform) vs Windows and not OSX vs Windows.
Oh and Vista runs like crap. @.@

And you know what Israel? I whole heartedly agree with you! However, I do in fact enjoy OSX and the way things just - work. I am speaking strictly on a designer view. Whenever I am rendering anything it just feels sluggish in comparassion to working on a Mac. Now, for gaming or anything else of course I would go with a PC. Thats a no-brainer. However, Since I am going to sell my laptop and go with a MacBook, I was simply excited to see that the Macs are more than capable of playing modern games as the previous generation were utter shit. I have had countless occassions where working on a pc and my Adobe programs would crash or something awry would occur. I have never had a Mac crash on me. Now, I am fully aware that Macs do have their own self contained issues but, I view them insignificant compared to the problems that plague Windows. So, yea - overpriced hardware for a great OS. I am going from a great laptop gpu to an intergrated 9400M but, that youtube video at least made myself feel more comfortable about my future purchase. And, I am at least content knowing it will run StarCraft 2. I tried to stay away from paying the "Apple tax" as long I could however, my days working on a Mac when I worked in Houston stayed with me. The new unibody design and etc just enticed me further.

Exactly. I just had the same discussion and conclusion with a co-worker after I posted.
On a pure hardware level the comparison is ridiculous, it's the same components (Now that they dropped PowerPC and went Intel) for the most part except you have countless variety for PC side for a much cheaper total price.
But if you enjoy OSX, then there really is nothing to say. With my company Macs make up .05% of the total computers throughout the entire enterprise. The kicker is my department makes up that .049%. Anyone who is a Mac fan is in my department as all of the graphic designers are here and movie producers, programmers, Flash devs, etc.
So I come in and I'm labeled a PC guy from the get-go, which is a fair and good assumption. It's just sorta nutty how many of these people get into a strange pure biasness for one platform over the other without any real constructive reasoning. And daily things turn into a Mac Vs Windows debate with people drawing clear lines like they're fans of a football team or something.
If you wanna argue hardware and be PRO-Mac you're gonna end up looking like a real moron when the technical side comes up with price as a focal point. But if you bring up OSX and many of the great Apple software then your arguement for PRO-Mac is sound.
If only more people could atleast express their enjoyment of Macs like you did, Joe, with atleast a logical valued reason.
I'm still having to defend Vista because "it runs like crap @.@ and Windows Blue screens all the time. (wtf)." Which is flat out wrong this far into Vista SP1.
Mac, Windows, whatever gets the job done. For me, it's all Windows/PC because I use my computer for gaming 80% of the time.

Yea, the problem for me is that most of the pc laptops have such a shitty build. I enjoy Sony laptops because they have such wonderful builds though...but, their pricing are almost as ridiculous as Apple...sometimes even more absurd.
I am just happy that MacBooks can finally play games "DECENTLY." Apple has made significant improvemnts and even the unibody design is reason to applause Apple.
No real serious gaming should take place on a laptop in the first place. Nothing will ever beat playing on a pure desktop gaming rig. However, with myself weaning off gaming and having the thought of occasional gaming - the MacBook would satsify my needs. It has become terribly difficult to play the games I want and still be productive. I hate to say it - but, I am really playing more iPod touch games than "actual" games...
StarCraft 2 would probably be the only game I want to play. However, knowing how competitive I get with RTS games...I am afraid I would want to be #1 on my server as I was in WarCraft 3 for quite some time...and my wife would hate that.
