Much of the frustration surrounding the RP can really be attributed to comparison to the WP, not problems with the RP class itself. Personally, I haven't noticed a drop off at all in the effectiveness of the RP outside of the normal challenges a player might have when first entering into the next tier.
I like the RP. It's definitely different than the other two in that it's a bit more straight forward in terms of how it plays, so I can understand how it might start to get boring for some, but I think a lot of that has to do with how you play, with whom you play, and what kind of action you find on your server.
Regardless of what you read, the RP brings a great deal of utility to a group, you just have to be open to using it and it also helps if your group is set up to allow you to use it.
As for the temptation to go FotM and start up a WP, you might want to hold off on that. First, within a group, it isn't an either/or situation in terms of running with an RP or a WP. You can run both and they compliement each other very well. We have both a Salvation WP and a Grungni/Grimnir RP in our group and the combo works out great. The WP handles most of the group healing maintenance and I handle most of the single target duties, but also supporting and enhancing what the WP is doing through my tactics.
Yes, if we looked at a scoreboard or a DPS/Healing meter at the end of the night, the WP is going to have healed more people for greater amounts in the end, but that doesn't really mean much, as it should be expected, given that the majority of that healing is group based, healing more people more frequently. In the end, I'm happy about that because we A.) win, and B.) his group healing allows me to focus elsewhere, such as focusing on single target healing and assisting on the primary target for heal debuff support.
Also, if you search around the forums, somehere the developers mentioned that they fully intend to bring the WP back to where it is supposed to be, and that's on the front lines. The WP was never meant to be able to stand in the back lines spamming group heals, something that passive RF regen through tomes allows them to do. The group heal for the WP is quick-cast for a reason, and that reason is that they are supposed to be on the front lines and in the thick of combat where a 2.5s cast time would be prohibitive. So, I'd imagine we'll see some changes soon that will put the WP back up front where they belong, as they'll need to be there in order to generate RF to fuel their heals instead of sitting back allowing their tome to do the work for them.
