Anybody heard/interested in this movie? If you are interested....please slap yourself and go to your nearest bookstore and buy the damn book The movie isn't coming out for another two months, but I've halfway done with the book already and by the looks of the previews and the synopsis...the book is so much better They haven't included but like 10% of the actual story The main character's name is still true, but when the hell was he ever a brilliant scientist??! In the book he's a damn alcoholic. And white too He goes from an Ayrian (sp?w/e blonde hair/blue eyes) To fuggin Will Smith Now theres nothing wrong with Will Smith, don't get me wrong...he's a great actor But they're just going from one side of the spectrum to the other... I'm done with this rant. You know what you should do, if you're ever interested about this Book > Movie Now I'm going to go finish the book and weep for the future. (angry faic)

Dude reading is like so 1990. J/K.
Anyways, that book is WAY old, WAY WAY old. Hell the movie has been done before. Vincent Price was the main in the original adaptation (Last man on Earth - 1964 movie).
Yes the dog is only with him for a day in the book...yes the book has a cool story...but...seeing things on screen vs reading about them are two different worlds.
I am Legend is a bonified vampire story...with a twist...instead of humans fighting off one vampire it's reversed. The Legend, Neville, is the last remnant of mankind prior to the diseased vampirism. He's the day walker able to kill fools in their sleep. The monster to them.
I like how the main is a brother aka Will Smith. He makes things cool. I have as much loyalty for celebrities as I do for music groups (nearly nonexistent) but Will Smith typically spits out excellent movies.
The trailer is cool and it's just a movie I'd like to see when it comes out. People love to toss out that "I can imagine things a million times better" blah blah, this isn't Lord of the Rings or Batman, it's I Am Legend and I bet 85% of the people who watch it never knew it was a book made in the 50s.
Can't say the book > movie...when the movie isn't out.
If you really wanted a real adaptation, then the main would need to wear a white collared shirt with a tie...some suspenders...high waters and white and black chaps. But being an alchoholic he'd smell of booze and sweat with yellow pit stains. Oh and don't forget the bowler hat, gotta have one of those.
Welcome to 50yrs of book to movie adaptation. In 2007 Will Smith is the man! I view this movie much like the other movies viewed the book, they're all adaptations, not direct creations.

[via Wikipedia]
The book takes place in the then-future of the years 1976-1979, and opens with the monotony and horror of the daily life of the protagonist, Robert Neville. Neville is apparently the only survivor of an apocalypse caused by a pandemic of a bacterium, the symptoms of which are very similar to vampirism. Every day he also makes repairs to his house, boarding up windows, stringing and hanging garlic, and disposing of vampires' corpses on his lawn.
Neville's psychological disposition is a significant element in the novel, and his struggles with despair imbue the character with intensity and gravitas. The author emphasizes that he is an ordinary, flawed man trying to deal with an extraordinary catastrophe.
Much of the story is devoted to Neville's struggles to understand the plague that has transformed everyone he meets except for himself, and the novel details the progress of his discoveries. In this regard, the novel is almost unique in vampire fiction in that instead of asking the reader to accept a supernatural explanation for vampire phenomena, the author strives to offer scientific basis for such symptoms as aversion to garlic, craving of fresh blood, and resistance to bullets but vulnerability to stakes and sunlight. The aversion to mirrors and crosses (or, in the case of one vampire of Jewish origin, the Torah) is classified as psychological.
Eventually, Neville discovers that while he is the only person immune to the bacterium, he is not the only one still alive. Others who have been infected have discovered a means to hold the disease at bay. However, during the night hours, they appear to be fully evolved vampires. Thus, along with the vampires, he has been killing these still living persons. He becomes a source of terror to the still living, since he can go around in daylight (which they can only do for a short length of time) and leaves their dead behind. These still living “vampires” capture Neville and reveal their nature to him, and how monstrous he appears to them. Just as vampires were regarded as legendary monsters that preyed on the vulnerable humans in their beds, Neville has become the last of a dead breed; a mythical figure that kills both vampires and the infected living while they are sleeping. He becomes a legend as the vampires once were, hence the title.

Yeah, I dunno...books are typically "supposedly" better than the movies because of one's imagination being tailored to SUIT your specific personality. But, Will Smith is the shit and I like the idea that he's in the military because it gives him credibility on his marksmanship and ability to operate a fire-arm. I hate those damn zombie/vampire movies where the drunken ass hole of the town is the last man standing and no matter what weapon he picks up, whether it be a grenade launcher or a M4A1, he automatically has 100% marksmanship...Which is just fuggin retawded. Also, in all actuality, if they filmed a movie that was play-by-play from the book...It would probably be like 30 mins long or 10 hours long depending on what book you're reading. Since most books can only appeal to your imagination, they have to explain EVERY detail. "The pungent stench of mildew emminates around you"...So that would be like 3 mins of them attempting to film how pungent the mildew is :oP
